It can only be mined with a Diamond pickaxe or Netherite pickaxe. Ancient Debris is smelted into Netherite Scrap, and you need 4 Netherite Scrap + 4 Gold Ingots to craft 1 Netherite Ingot. But, because 4 Ancient Debris are required to make 1 Netherrite Ingot, it increases the difficulty to obtain the armor/tools over Diamond by about 4x.

It cannot be blown up and drops of ancient debris, netherite scraps, netherite ingots, and netherite tools cannot be burned in lava or fire (in fact, they skip off the surface of lava). When you nuke a big swath of the Nether, only the ancient debris blocks will be left floating in midair.
