There are two "trees" that can be opened in Halloween Town. Presumably you mean the crypt-door that looks like a Christmas Tree, in Moonlight Hill...? Check on the gummi ship's Select World screen. Does Halloween Town display a keyhole icon? (Arrow around and compare to what's shown for other locked worlds.)
