Meanwhile everyone else believed meliodas had a brother named estarossa and that estarossa killed mael, so the demon king gave estarossa meliodas's love commandment.

There has been no reason that I have seen for the powers that they have and if one can counter magic it makes sense another can counter physical attacks.

imo estarossa makes mael better, but mael does not make estarossa better.Estarossa was already interesting on his own. He had a unique dynamic with meliodas and zeldris with him even desiring to surpass meliodas, but once mael came into the picture that entire dynamic disappeared and all his motivations and goals didn’t matter anymore.
